This video is the second in a series of tutorials titled “Beginning Improvisation for the Pianist”. In this video, you can learn how to improvise with a minor pentatonic scale in the right hand, and a drone in the left hand. I also give three tips: 1) play at various dynamic levels, 2) mix up your rhythms, and 3) use the sustain pedal in different ways. In the last part of the video, I play a short improvisation using these elements. The sheet music for this improvisation is available as a download at: www.josephakins.com. Be sure to watch out for the next tutorial where you can learn another technique for improvisation.
